"The real time flowing through living human fates, and real people flowing through the fluid time – these are the key motives of the new book by the most popular Ukrainian writer Maria Matios. A digest of a book "inhabited" by lots of known and unknown people and events, which create the historical, psychological, ideological, cultural and household mosaics of the Ukrainian life on the verge of the 20th and the 21st centuries. It is not by chance that the writer herself refers to "The Torn Out Pages..." as "not just an autobiography, but a hundred-percent book about the contemporary and contemporaries"...

In Ukrainian.

I discovered Maria Matios' "Solodka Darusja" this summer, thanks to an Ukrainian friend. Now I am trying to translate it in Italian. Very difficult. I would like to ask many things to the author, which are still unclear to me. “Vyrvani storynki” is very important to get closer to the author and to her world. Not only about Bukovina, but also about the Ukrainian culture of the past century, which was almost unknown to me. I was very impressed by the stories about the people M.M. was familiar to. As the Ivasjuk family and Volodymir Ivasjuk tragedy. It was also very interesting to learn about the author’s attitude to the political events and the Ukrainian presidents in the last ten years.
But ... There is a big BUT. The book was very difficult to read because of the format and the typographic peculiarities. Difficult to keep it open and very unpleasant the uses of different fonts: italics, underlined, bold letters. I don’t know who decided it, but, in my opinion, people reading the book must be let free to establish what is important in the text.
Thank you for reading these lines.
