Yuriy Kosach. Den hnivu. (The Day of Wrath)
"The novel "The Day of Wrath" by brilliant, though highly controversial expat writer Yuriy Kosach, Lesya Ukrainka's nephew, is obviously the most talented fictional reflection of the tumultuous era of Khmelnytsky in the Ukrainian literature. Written in Germany during the period of 1947-48 and virtually unknown today to the Ukrainian reader, this elaborated novel portrays a vivid picture of the explosive popular uprising led by Bohdan-Zinovy Khmelnitsky in 1648.
As indicated by M.Stech in the afterword to this publication, the presentation of the "Cossack Ukrainian revolution" of the seventeenth century by Kosach is extremely modern and surprisingly consonant with our time, as it reflects the numerous parallels with the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity of the 21st century."
