Mykola Hohol. Vechory na hutori bilja Dykan'ky. (mp3). (Evenings at a Farm Near Dikanka) (2006).
Mykola Gogol is, presumably, virtually the only writer, who, while writing his works in Russian, knew how to instill to the reader curiosity and love to Ukrainian. At least, I cannot recollect anyone else who would have a similar ability. But I know quite a lot of Russian-speaking people, for whom the Ukrainian language began exactly with Gogol – only a few of them have learnt it, but none will ever stop respecting and valuing its beauty, expressiveness, I think. And that is why I consider that works by Gogol need to be read – and in this case listened to – or even must be. And the more so – when they are already read in Ukrainian. And – beautiful Ukrainian, juicy, living one. And we have already not once encountered the reader – Boris Loboda – on shelves with audio books, and each time his work deserves compliments. Well, and here – Gogol gives to the artist a wide field for work and fantasy. Even descriptive, or landscape, parts are often represented by the author with such emotionality, as though this were a dialog of people ardently in love, but not, say, just scenery. And such attentive passion, actually, results in that you, while reading, also start falling in love with everything described – you become truly attentive, you see details clearly. This is beautiful prose – the stories and short stories included here have long been referred to as pearls of not only ours, but also world literature. Thus – have a good trip...
The text is recorded without contractions, read by the Honored Artist of Ukraine B.Loboda.
