Slavetni val'sy. Hrajut‘ dukhovi orkestry. Golden Collection. (The Famous Waltzes. Performed by Wind Orchestras)
It seems as if it were possible to say that this disc did not contain any singing. It contains waltzes performed by several orchestras. Performed not by usual orchestras, but by wind bands. You know, practically each musical instrument has its own voice, but not each of them sings. As for wind instruments, all of them sing. That’s why music performed by a wind band is always filled with air and you may always feel the nature of the wind in it. May be, not of all sorts of wind, but exactly of a city wind. Especially when we talk about such famous waltzes as "The Waves of the Amur" or "On the Mounds of Manchdguriya". Personally for me this music draws such a picture – summertime, a park, children with ice cream and balloons in their hands, parents walking leisurely, unexpected meetings with old acquaintances and a lot of smiles. Probably, it may remind or tell you about something different. But it seems to me that in any case there will be gladness in all that, quiet and real – like the sun rays that shine through green leaves of high trees, like the flow of a big river, which already does not hurry anywhere. It seems to me that there is the force of patience in this music.

This CD is a real gem! Listening to it, you are immediately whisked away to a long-gone era (before TV) - when people entertained themselves by socialising, listening to outdoor concerts and by dancing to live brass bands. The atmosphere is nostagic, but also it is full of life and a feeling of being care-free!
For thos who like brass bands, the skill of the players and arrangements cannot be found in today's brass bands. For those who don't think they like brass bands - listen to this CD! The sound is smooth and mellow, like a well-aged wine. The brass and woodwind instruments fuse together in a tapestry with multiple but harmonious colours. You cannot find bands or orchestras that play like this in today's world!
