Krapka. Khrestyky y nuli. /digi-pack/. (Noughts and Crosses)
"Krapka" band from Zaporizhya is an interesting and unpredictable team, because in their music the guys combine seemingly incongruous stuff. The second album by the band turns out as a "salad" where the team aspires to demonstrate the entire range of their music's versatility. In addition to the ethno-hop traditional for "Krapka", in their songs the guys focus on such styles as trip-hop, sweet-jazz, and even boogie. The album contains 16 tracks, half of them recorded with other musicians from Zaporizhya, who complimented the album with the sounds of the violin, cello, saxophone, keyboards, and female vocals. There is space for ethnic experiments in the album as well. Thus, in the title song of the album – "Noughts and Crosses", folk male and female vocals intertwine not only with hip-hop, but also with elements of the Australian ethnics. Sounding of the didgeridoo adds this flavor to the song.

As for the title, it is philosophical and deep enough, because "Krapka" interprets the children's game of crosses and circles as a sacred game of divine forces with the evil. However, every listener will discover this content him/herself. "(information from the official press release)

Krapka. Zhyvyj. (Alive)

The debut album by Krapka sounds very rich, vibrant, inventive – convincing. The three keys are used: hip-hop – in relation to the lyrics, rock, and ethics (and not only Ukrainian) – in relation to the music. And even the term "world music" will not say it all – although it is quite close to the point.

Rolliks. Peretvorysya na zbroyu. /digi-pack/. (Turn Into Weapons)

The new album by Rolliks is not for those inclined to a moderate outlook. From the very beginning, the group's songs stood out due to their evident uncompromising nature – and in the new album this evident fact has not disappeared.

Boombox. Seredniy vik. /digi-pack/. (Middle Age)

The new album by Boombox is another very significant reason to mention the year 2011 as one of the most yielding years for the non-ordinary Ukrainian popular music. No doubt – despite the title, "Middle Age", no crisis is in question here. On the contrary.

Flyza. Zasmaha na sertse. (Tan on the Heart)

The new work sounds more weighted, carefully thought through, expressed. It sounds as though the smile is still for all the 32 teeth, but some knowledge that adds a faint note of sadness to laughter has started shining in the eye... Well, we'll see. Not everyone manages, having accumulated knowledge and wisdom, to look at the world with optimism – but Flyzzza still does have such chances.

Gutsul Calipso. Reket-Hanhstera. (Racket-Gangsters)

Gutsul Kalipso play music that they personally name "Guzul-hop" and sometimes define it as a mixture of Bukovyna folklore, hip-hop and jazz. Judging by everything, the All-Mighty Jah has not gone round creative searches of these smiling fighters with his favorable attention either – as a result, a very fanciful but also no less positive music freak has seen the light of the day.

Haplyk. Shvydka muzychna dopomoha. (Music First-Aid)

Haplyk is just a couple of fellows, but their hip-hop creates the impression as if a few more engines were hidden behind the scene. At least, they have enough energy both for a club, and for a large audience.

Brilliant album, not a single dud track. Ukrainian rap/folk at its best! Love it.
