The Best of Ukrainian Folklore. International Festival of Ukrainian Music and Song "Gorytsvit". (DVD).

Dear Sirs! We bring to your attention Cossacks' rituals and games, folk songs, dances and music performed by the best performers from the different regions of Ukraine who took part in the International Television Ukrainian Music and Song Festival "Gorytsvit". There is a great power, a spiritual power in our people's traditions and customs sense of which we tried to deliver to you by means of the Festival TV film release. Everything you see there took place formerly, takes place today and we hope it will take from now on. Since olden times we have been one nation creating together one culture, have been spoken common language, have had brought it altogether from our great-great-grandfathers till nowadays through the millennia. Apparently the original meaning of our traditions, rituals and costumes lacks for the research and even the discovering. Nevertheless you will not break free from the folk song capture as far as it charms. And let the rolling martial signals and sharp Cossacks' fable and cannon's booming and wide Cossacks' singing resound in the whole world since our kind never ends!

The movie is in Ukrainian only.

Video format - PAL.

The best dvd ever. I couldn't run in on TV because the format is PAL but one out of three of our computers it ran on and it wonderful. The dancing is terrific, the music nice. I don't understand the language but it is just wonderful. Wish they could get some more that doesn't run on PAL.

This is a wonderful DVD of Ukrainian folk music with beautiful scenery, since it was filmed in the rural country side. Again, this part of the Ukraine looks astonishingly like my own native New England State of Vermont. Although I do not understand Ukrainian the music and photography is more than enough for me. For anyone who loves the folk music of the Ukraine it is a wonderful CD. It will be enjoyed for a very long time.
