Maria Pylypchak. Mamyna kolyskova. Compilation of authentic Ukrainian lullabies. (release-2007).
The second edition offered to you contains a 12-page booklet including notes for 15 lullabies from among those recorded on this disc.

No doubt, there are among us those who have been familiar with at least some of these lullabies from their birth. But, and there is no doubt about this either, there are much more of us for whom these lullabies will be a real discovery. If it is really so, it is rather sad. However, there still appear new discs like that, as well as new books and new research works, though their quantity is as big as we would like it to be – as it deserves. Because all that should not be forgotten, it should not be lost. From such things a person's upbringing starts. Sure, one might get by with a simple "aa-a" as well, since in the first place a child takes not words but feelings and emotions. Still, on the other hand, a lullaby should be virtually the tenderest creation of verbal art, and it is exactly in a lullaby that any language of the world reveals its inner secret beauty that cannot be found in talks on politics or anything else. It is through lullabies – at the harmony level – that a child gets the first lessons of quiet wisdom, is not it? Moreover, they do not contain anything superfluous at all – and here I refer not only to verbal beauty. These are very intimate songs, and maternity shows up in one of the deepest ways exactly in lullabies. They have what nobody can offer to a child better than mum: unreserved love – and protection...

Unfortunately the quality of recording is not perfect, however, we decided to present this material on the web site because it, no doubt, will be interesting for many admirers of the Ukrainian song.
