P’jata charka za kumiv. (Fifth Glass to Children's Godparent)

It is a clear thing – where there is the first glass, there they will not do without the second one. The third is, as known, to women. And the fifth – actually, why not? – to children's godparents. It is even strange that not the first and not the second one – honestly. For the institution of godparentship is so highly developed in Ukrainian consciousness, being simultaneously an object of both anecdotes and of political criticism. For it is a serious lever of public power, the foundation both for great quarrels and great displays of real friendship, here there is just one step from self-sacrifice to a poignant Kolomyika. To make it short, it is an interesting topic for a discussion. And if the discussion is heated with full glasses – it becomes yet more interesting. Actually, in this case it is worth concentrating exactly on the party table aspect – this collection in no way motivates serious reflections or philosophical substantiations. It, rather, denies seriousness as such – and this is good. A person should be constantly reminded that life spent with a deadpan face does not justify any achievements. What is the joy of life in which there is no joy?
