We got accustomed to the fact that the Ukrainian people can’t help joking. As for sexual subjects, in general the whole industry of entertainment has been built upon them, and this industry is the most profitable in the world. There is always a person who can make a keen “peppery” joke. And there are always people who appreciates such kind of humour. As it is well-known, such jokes are often called “tallow” (“bawdy”). The Ukrainian nation is famous for its love for fat in all its forms. That is why it would be surprising if people did not pay such great attention exactly to this “bawdy” genre. It is not common to speak about this side of life in ballads and meditations. And it is quite natural that the sexual subjects flourish exactly in folk songs “kolomyiky”, as may be there’s no more folk, there’s no more sincere form of verbal art with Ukrainian people which is free of some specific rules and prejudices. Thus, kolomyiky are not limited only by sex – they also neglect it. And this second collection is a vivid example of how well people know biology in general and physiology and anatomy in particular. May be, it is good. After all, any kind of taboo cause nothing but morbid interest.
