Caipirinha

Caipirinha is not just a tropical cocktail but also name of the Lusophone musical project created by members of the original Smack Band staff – Vladislav "Smack" Ponomarenko (bass, vocal, percussion), Dmitry Medvedev (keyboards), Alexander Danchenko (guitars) and Lubov Belousova (vocals, percussion).

One more original "Smack Band" member, flute player Lyudmila Shershniova took part side by side with new generation – drummers Ilya Kvasov and Arthur Frolov.

Caipirinha’s repertoire consists of original songs in Musica Popular Brasileira / Brazilian Jazz style. Up to date "Caipirinha" is the only example of similar genre on Ukrainian stage.

Their first effort got a critical acclaim by the Greats of Brazilian music – Ivan Lins, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim.

In a certain sense "Caipirinha" and "Smack Band" musicians are thrice pioneers of Ukrainian recording. They released the first Ukrainian jazz CD "Smack" (1993), the first international CD "by correspondence" ("Just Music", 2012) and now – "Caipirinha", the first Ukrainian Lusophone album.

Very lively music, which almost imperceptibly but inexorably draws you into the circle of its fluctuations – even if you have never paid much attention to the Brazilian music..
