I think that this triple disk will at one go tell you about the saxophone more than you have ever known unless you studied it as a separate discipline. Exactly 160 years ago, in 1846, Antoine Sax patented his invention. Probably, he was proud of himself but could he envisage that his baby will become the instrument of the music revolution? I dont think I exaggerate. In fact, at first, as in the case of the clarinet, the saxophone sound was considered somewhat sharp, if not vulgar. But very soon it was already introduced into the structure of a classic orchestra. What first appeared as a bold experiment, very quickly became widespread practice. And already in 1857, J. B. Singelée writes the "First Quartet" for 4 saxophones. And then it started. Then... Then jazz came, and again the saxophone found itself on the edge of advance-guard, in the center of search and birth of completely new music. On the one hand, it is no longer possible to imagine swing without it, on the other in those very years, at the beginning of the 20th century, composers write very special, modern music for it. Its voice allows bold experiments and experiments become bolder and bolder. Bop begins, cool jazz develops free jazz is already approaching, and this process continues until now... In skilful hands, it is capable of anything. The triptych "Bravo, Sax!" is called to prove it and it copes with the task very convincingly. There is the whole palette. The first disk is classic composer's music, author works and arrangements of folk melodies. Here, Henry Purcell is a neighbor of Bach, Bortnyansky, Singelée a wonderful company. Actually, you could come across the album "Just Before..." that includes these works here before, as a separate release. The second disk is the above-mentioned modern author music, fruits of free searches and bold experiments. One cannot deny that this music layer has considerably extended the creative and professional range of the saxophone. I think, it is possible to assert that it is in this field that classic and jazz schools first seriously met. Met, interlaced, enriched each other and went beyond their own borders. And till now they continue to move. Well, and the third part of the release it is, actually, jazz in various displays. World-famous masterpieces blues, ragtime, themes known to anyone. And they are performed impeccably. Delicately? Yes. Delicately enough to look simple. Interesting? You bet. It is a very bright release. Well, in the end, the design here it also plays far not the least part. Actually, you see yourself: it is a present design, which it is not only pleasant to take in your hands you wont want to let it out. The quality of the material, and the very idea, and the contents quality all are at a high level. It is worth being proud of such release and it is not a shame to present with it the most whimsical connoisseurs of history, art, and beauty.

..these are anyway not flashes or explosions, but light fog, hints, mid-tones, mid-shades.. Heat and cool interweave here rather whimsically one only needs to make a little step aside to be inside, in the heart of the music, and for it to appear in one's heart.

As the title promises, the album has turned out quite strange but in a good sense. This is the strangeness that can only be afforded by good, versatile musicians otherwise, originality may easily turn into farce, showing off. This did not happen here one virtually feels with one's skin in what a thin, delicate way all of that is compiled.

On the one hand, there seems no be nothing superfluous even Aleksandrov, oddly enough, has not added too much pepper, even though he knows how to do it at the level of "excellent". And on the other the organism works so smoothly, without failures, that the entire album literary flies at one breath...

"Fever" is a studio work. So, on the one hand, there is no living "breathing of the audience", the proper concert experience. But on the other there is no room for concerns, everything is polished to shine (although, I must say, at concerts the quartet also sounds so smoothly that sometimes it seems almost unbelievable)...

"Swing Cocktail" is a present for all those who love the emotions of "live" recordings and, respectively, concert features of performance of evergreens. Moreover, this time the purely saxophone composition has been expanded on the album, you will have a chance to hear the clarinet, piano, bass, and drums. They do not sound in every piece in this case, these are rather spices.

The album is a collection of concert recordings and here, you will find not only jazz evergreens performed by the saxophone quartet, which would be quite natural. As evident from the title "Classics & Jazz", half of the album is composed of classical pieces Bach, Purcell, Bizet and this is, admittedly, very specific pleasure.

"Brutal pop power" so they call it. But there is a great temptation to also add other words: post-rock plus acoustic acid jazz with trip hop education something like this, probably. However, all these names do not contradict each other because music like this as it is means going beyond the limits of specific style...

...the silent poetry of the atmospheric, almost supernatural winds appeared against the background of clear, transparent rhythms and sometimes fluctuating, changeable bass and key lines. This music seems to pull into some mystic circle, however it also tears, transforms it with sporadic emotional splashes, does not let it calm down melancholically, provokes attention.

It sounds as very delicate, intelligent combination of clear feelings and attentive reflections. All through the time while the disc sounds, one has the haunting feeling that the musicians realize themselves and the space around literally at every second and are able to instantly react to its every motion, because they have inside a full degree of freedom and mastery.

...just before one's eyes. That is, when listening to, for example, the play "Two women who have not seen each other for a long time" you will clearly see the women, and a small square where they met, the color of their hair and temperaments, will be able to discern the voice of each of them. Such expressiveness of performance really thrills.

Dalla classica alla contemporanea, generi diversissimi ma che rivisti da questo quartetto di sax acquistano omogeneità.
I primi due cd sono superbi, il terzo (Fascinating Rhytm) è l'anello debole.
Comunque consigliatissimo.
