Everything you will hear is not simply singing. This is a self-sacrificing creative work of usual villagers. Still, as we can see, not so usual. Frankly speaking, at the beginning you even do not believe that you can plainly hear such beautiful and professional singing in a usual Ukrainian village. But this is not the case of professionalism, of course. This is a vivid example of a commonplace wonder. You are surprised only for a short period of time, then you understand that there is nothing unusual in such state of things. As Ukrainian land is so rich in songs and voices. You should only leave the bounds of asphalt and put your ear to the ground – and at once you will hear its voice, vivid rhythm and melody. And if you pay enough time and attention to it, you may hear a lot. For example, the age of this chorus members varies from 14 to 80 – isn’t it the example worth of sufficient attention? An attentive person is looking for the answer not only in the church but in everything – and finds it. That is why it is quite natural that this disc contains both liturgical songs and Ukrainian folk songs. And let the person who is really looking for something find it.

...this album contains, apart from the rest, songs for Christmas and Easter. However, the objective of that concert program was to demonstrate to Ukrainians the widest possible palette of Georgian singing – so, festive, lyrical, feast, humorous and other songs from various regions of Georgia, instrumental melodies, as well as solo singing could be heard there.

As with the gentleman from Hong Kong, I found the UMKA website by chance in searching for music of the Ukraine. I have purchased many CDs and have not been disappointed. This CD is a must for those who enjoy Russian Orthodox Church music. It is so very beautiful, it touches the heart and soul deeply, at times bringing tears to the eyes and always bringing peace to oneself. When I visited Russia in 2007 we heard brief examples of the superior singing in two Churches we visited. The a cappella singing of Russian and Ukrainian Church choirs is an incredible sound. It is as though it is being sung by the very angels of Heaven. I sing in a chorus and know how difficult it can be to sing a cappella. This CD is of a village choir, presumably not as trained as professional choirs are, and with an age range of 14-80. How wonderful to have such a wide range in ages all singing Church music in such a professional way. When I have had a hectic day filled with stress, this and other Russian Orthodox Church music CDs bring me rest and peace.

I found your website by chance - but rather perhaps I was guided here! I listened to a single track and my eyes and heart filled with tears. It is so many years since I have been to either the Ukraine or to Russia. The beauty and sincerity of such voices touches the heart and rises like incense before the Lord! Balshoy spasseeba!
