Nechuy-Levyts’ky became one of the first and most appreciable realists of the classical Ukrainian literature. He so skillfully generalizes, comprehends human features, characteristics, that the reader has almost no need of fantasizing – it is very easy to imagine both the people, and the events. Characters of his personages are expressive, precise, and deep. Relations among them – sharp and delicate. Details – very eloquent. And thus it appears that his works are not just literature, but almost films, and it is very easy to get into the midst of them. Natalia Sums’ka’s skills deserve special attention. Due to how she reads, lives though, embodies these stories, you would not like to interrupt them. She reads even men's monologues so that one feels male notes, intonations – and the next moment, without any pause, you already hear the woman as she is. And these transitions are so easy and imperceptible that it is both surprising and pleasant to listen to them. At school, I remember, the both stories seemed to me rather long. But now, probably due to Sums’ka’s artistic skills, I would not like to abandon the space of the both stories – I want to follow them up to the end.
