As we know, the first series of "Jazz-Kolo" discs represents live-records of the concerts that take place within the framework of this project. However, the project develops, rises to a new level – so, the second series of releases within Jazz-Kolo has already been launched. This series sets the goal of creating a sort of a reference book of Ukrainian jazz musicians – grouping them by spheres of professionalization. Actually, the first disc of the new series is focused on the bass – both the bass guitar and the contrabass. At that, this time these are already studio, not concert recordings – and a few tracks were even recorded especially for the sake of the "Bass Kolo" disc. Moreover, some of these recordings until now could only be found in private collections, while they do deserve being heard by as many people as possible. Clear thing, at such conditions one could hardly expect real stylistic integrity – because every musician independently selected the play to represent him in this collection. However, saying that this is just vinaigrette that does not have its own artistic value beyond the talk about jazz bass players – would be unfair either. Still,
Igor Zakus as the initiator and compiler, obviously, did everything possible in order that the collection sounded not only colorful, eloquent – but also harmonious. If he did intend that – he has truly succeeded in it. We have received not just a volume of a dry encyclopedia, but a bright, juicy collection of high-quality sketches, which it is interesting to listen to in any case. Although it will probably be most interesting for those who feel butterflies in their stomach as soon as they hear bass...
