"The pointsman Tarapunka made his acquaintance with Galya as long ago as in the wartime. He related his love to the nice girl having the rare and unusual last name – Sumjattja (Confusion) – to his only friend Shtepsel'. The exceeding timidity prevented Tarapunka from admitting his love to Galya. When the war was over, Galya came to Kyiv to take part in the Olympiad of amateur artists. Tarapunka saw his beloved girl again, but an occasion prevented the two in love from witnessing their feelings again. The jury perceived the witty guys as variety artists and included their performance into the first concert. Shtepsel' undertakes arranging his friend's marriage, but his attempt appears unsuccessful, and the concert ends in a failure..."
