The film is about a love triangle among a couple of American newly weds, Sappho and Phil, who come to the island for their honeymoon, and the daughter of a Russian archaeologist Helena. This love triangle repeats the story of the best-known poem by the ancient Greek poetess Sappho about contradictory sexual appeal. At the end of the film, the past and present merge into a whole.
