Maksym Osa is a character of the comic strip "Maksym Osa: Man from Other World" by Igor Baranko published in Ukraine, Belgium, France, Poland and Russia. The outset is this: it is 1636, a large part of Ukraine is included into Rzeczpospolita, but Zaporozhian Sich of the time is also a powerful force that counts in the world. Maksym is a Horunzhy of Korsun regiment, a famous master of weapons, who returns to his native village after a campaign in the Crimea. It is already the fifth day that he is sitting over his own tomb, drinking vodka with despair, and cannot figure out: what the hell, it is his grave but he is alive? Even his bride refused to talk to him – even though he saw that she recognized him. And there, Lady Death come to see him at the cemetery...
The Ukrainian flavour, family secrets, spectacular duels, treachery, treasure hunt, mysterious murders... This is not an exhaustive list of what "Maksym Osa" offers – an original, distinctly Ukrainian graphic novel. It seems to be the first of its kind. By the way, there are already plans for screening it, right now the script is being developed – and if it comes to the point, it will be the first such experience for the Ukrainian cinema as well. In 2013, the film is expected to appear in cinemas..
