The story reminds me of the stories that I heard as a young child from my grandmother as she was a teenager in 1932-1933. The movie is a really good representation of what happenned during the famine.

Overall the movie is sad but well directed. I like the fact that the subtitles were used so the movie can be viewed by non Ukrainian speaking audience.

Kojarzylo mi sie to z Dowzenka albo z Pudowkinem. Temat chyba malo znany w swiecie a to przeciez jedna z najwiekszych zbrodni XX wieku. Warto przypominacjak potwornym systemem byl komunizm.

The general impression is for the quality of the package, story, and film.

It really is a sad and tragic story. To see the central family of the film totally eliminated as a result of the artifical famine. Shooting much of the film in black and white or sepia gives an old news reel impression of throughout most of the movie. It is startlng (causes one to pause) to see the dream and flashback sequences shot in color.

Video CDs are not as popular in the United States, compared to the acceptance in other parts of the world. This played fine in my Toshibia dual DVD / VHS player.

This is dramatic representation of a terrible time in history. When I watched the movie, I almost thought I was watching a documentary of and from the time. That is not the case, but the film did leave me with that impression. The sad loss of life, both through starvation, outright murder, and through tragic circumstances leaves an emotional impact on the viewer. This is a very good movie.
