Golden September. The Galician Chronicles 1939-1941. (DVD).
"Unification or occupation? Good or evil? The events of "Golden September" were for decades considered classified secrets, forbidden from the attention of historians and forgotten by society.

Multicultural, prewar Halychyna (Galicia) fell victim to two of the 20th century's most infamous dictators – Hitler and Stalin. The prewar way of life, culture and ethnic diversity of the region was systematically and deliberately destroyed.

This film is based on the testimony of the witnesses to these events – representatives of the Ukrainian, Polish and Jewish communities, who until the beginning of the 1940's represented the main ethnic groups of Halychyna (Galicia). Newsreels and commentary from leading scholars and historians are referenced throughout the documentary."

This is an excellent Introduction to the events of 17th September 1939.
I will declare my interest: I'm coming to this subject from a Polish point of view but I found absolutely nothing to object to in this remarkably even handed documentary. The fact that a documentary like this is being made in todays Ukraine should give us all hope about the countrys future.

The Research is excellent, the film contains several interesting historical nuggets that i had never heard before.
The re-enactments are excellent.

Be Warned, one of the interrogation scenes may be distressing to some people, but thats how it was and the film needed to show it
