"1944, the end of the Second World War. A sergeant of the Soviet Army, Roman, who was expelled to Siberia before the war by bolshevists, comes back for three days for a furlough to his native Carpathian settlement to search for his beloved girl Annychka. The path of the hero intersects with a detachment of NKVD, which considers Roman a deserter, with Ukrainian insurgents, who consider Roman a bolshevist agent, and a group of armed marauders who captured Annychka. The whole further plot of the film turns round the three-day search by Roman of his fiancée.
The plot of the film is built on actual facts. During shooting, the creative group was actively advised by living witnesses of those distant events of 1944."
