"The book speaks of one of the most famous military units of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR) – the Black Cavalry Regiment of Cossacks led by Petro Dyachenko, whose favorite maxim was the expression "The bold gain happiness". He followed this principle, and he recruited to his regiment the brave ones who for the sake of their Motherland were ready to risk dying at any moment.

The book is the first comprehensive study of the history of the Black Cavalry Cossack Regiment, which shows in detail its entire combat history against the military and political events of the tumultuous 1918-1920. This book can tell you about participation of Black Cossacks in the campaigns of Olexander Natiyev in Kharkiv and Petro Bolbochan in the Crimea, in the anti-Hetman revolt, in fights with Makhnovists, about battles with communist Moscow troops led by Nikolay Shchors, Grigory Kotovsky, Vitaliy Primakov, the Winter Campaign of 1919-1920 and much more.

The book is accompanied by a large number of drawings (106) that visualize events of those times, as well as colored maps (21) with event mentioned in the book marked on them. At the end, the book contains annexes that make it possible for the reader to deepen his/her knowledge about the events mentioned (100 articles) and about the persons (180 articles) involved in them.
