Ivan Popovych. Otaman Karpat. (Ataman of the Carpathians)
Ivan Popovych, probably, still remains one of the brightest, most picturesque representatives of the "old" Ukrainian variety art. Not only because he does not lose his capacity to sing with true ardor younger performers not always have enough of. But also because he does not betray himself – in his songs, it can always be heard that Ivan Popovych originates from the Carpathian lands. And – he is proud of that. If he were not, obviously, more generalized rhythms and melodies would sound in his songs – not to lag behind his scene colleagues. And, in the end, this causes respect – for such conscious position paradoxically sets him aside from the commercial format framework. That is, we do not speak about popularity – it depends, clear thing, on the quality of material and tastes of the audience. But Popovych is not frequently heard in central channels' broadcasting – is it because he is worse than others? Hardly. However, this is already a different topic to be discussed. Here, we just wanted to say that the album "Ataman of the Carpathians" once again testifies: Ivan Popovych is still able, if he wishes, to sing genuinely. And this is nice.
