"Yuriy Yanovskyi is a genius of the Ukrainian Romantic Realism. His works reflect the events and outcomes of the 1917 Revolutions, which, sparkled by the humanity ideals, has burned its adherents. Yanovskyi's works are deeply lyrical, combining romanticism with reality, describing complicated formulas of human relations. His first stories are published in a collection The Mammoth Tusks, where the author experiments with new forms in an attempt to describe the blood stained events of the Civil War. The most famous work by Yanovskyi, the Riders novel, consists of eight novellas, each of which deploys numerous motives, caught by the author from the fire of the Civil War. The main characters, the Polovtsi brothers, fight for Ukraine's freedom on different sides of the political forces and kills each other for the idea. Their old father pronounces the symbolic words for the history of our nation: "That kin will last forever where brothers live in consent."
