"The elegy by the Greek poet Theognis (6th century BC) is an emotional reaction of the aristocrat in exile to the victory of a new class – unknown but well-off people. Deep pessimism borders on the light and thirst for life, the nostalgic tone – on the neat aphorisms. In comparison with Homer's long poems, "the Bible of the classic antiquity", the collection by Theognis can really be considered its "catechism".
