They come from a place that nobody would imagine them to come from.
They play music so simple and fresh that one would hardly expect to
emerge in our days. Despite all that, here they are – Nicholas (leading
vocal, guitar), AlexZander (bass, keyboards, backing vocal) and Max
(drums & percussion) - three lads in their twentieth who make up Eat Me Tiger. Having started out schoolboys jamming in a suburb of
Kiev, Ukraine they are now a crew of friends ready to fill the world up
with their music.
Why eat me tiger?
"Because that’s what we want people to yell after listening to us" – guys say smiling.
Formed
in 1999 the trio was one of the numerous Ukrainian bands that were
springing up as part of the Ukrainian cultural rebirth. Drifting on
that wave their first band called Pomaranch (means "orange")
participated in all major Ukrainian music festivals including
"Tavriyski Igry" (Tavriya Games) and "Perlyny Sezonu" where they won
"Best Rock Band" title in 2003. Named "opening of the year" Pomaranch
toured scenes all over Ukraine, and the future seemed to be promising.
The
bad news came when the Orange Revolution burst out in late 2004 and
being named "Orange" the band inevitably become associated with Viktor
Yushchenko’s political bloc. Despite all attempts to dissociate from
this and the release of their debut album in 2005 the band recognized
they would need to start off from the very beginning.
As a result a
brand new group "eat me tiger" appeared in spring 2006. "Now I realise
that it was all for good", says Max. "And I think by having become "eat
me tiger" we’ve finally let our demons out and quit listening to
established formats and obeying ridiculous rules." With completely
different sound and English-language lyrics the band is no longer
bounded to any specific culture, conversely making music with appeal to
people from all around the globe. Nicholas says: "From the very
beginning we’re heading to reach international acclaim. Music is
universal language and history has witnessed plenty of bands and
artists, not English-speaking by origin, who gained the world’s
admiration."
As a first step in bringing this bold ambition into
life "eat me tiger" released their first single and video "From the
underground" in December 2006. In December 2007 "eat me tiger" released
their first record ‘From the underground’ maxi-single of five songs
including eponymous original track and its dance remix. Supported by
Internet promotion campaign the single is now available only for free
online distribution at the band’s official MySpace page and is being
downloaded by thousands of people from all over the world.
Now "eat me tiger" are in the middle of recording their debut album called "Global warming".
