Leo Witoszynskyj was born in Vienna in 1941. He completed his studies with Luise Walker at the Vienna Academy of Music with honours, and took lessons from Andrés Segovia and Narciso Yepes.
1968 he was winner of the 1st International Competition for Guitar in Alessandria (Italy).
Since 1964 he is professor for guitar at the University of Music in Graz, where he also occupied the post of the assistant director from 1980-88.
His versatile artistic activities include recitals, chamber music and concerts with orchestra.
His performances in most of the European and many Asian countries, in South America and the USA, his participation in international festivals and his recordings on LP, MC and CD* have spread his excellent reputation worldwide.
1992 Leo Witoszynskyj was awarded the “Grand Order of Merit with the Republic of Austria”.
1998 he was appointed “Professor honoris causa” at the Academy of Music in L’viv. 2001 was conferred on him the honorary title “Merited Artist of Ukraine”. His book "Cantabile e ritmico. Art of Guitar Playing" was released by Doblinger (Vienna 2003).
