Mykola Riabchuk is a senior research associate at the Ukrainian Centre for Cultural Studies, and a member of the editorial board of "Krytyka" monthly. He graduated from the Lviv Polytechnic Institute and the Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow. Riabchuk has authored five books and numerous articles which have appeared in top international scholarly journals, on civil society, state/nation building, nationalism, national identity, and post-communist transition in the post-Soviet countries, primarily in Ukraine. He has held a number of prestigious fellowships, including Fulbright (USA, 1994-96), Reuters (Oxford, 2000), and Milena Jesenska Fellowship (Vienna, 2001). He has been invited to lecture in a number of Canadian, American and Polish Universities, most recently in Columbia (Spring 2006) and the University of Alberta (2007/2008). Riabchuk’s work has been translated into many languages and received numerous awards, including the Antonovych Prize (2003) for outstanding achievements in Ukrainian humanities, and a Polish-Ukrainian Capitula Award (2002) for his contribution into Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation.
