"Dyke pole" group, "Otava" group, "Volodar" group, Hurtopravtsi, "Drevo" group. Zberimosja, rode... /v.2/. (Let's gather the family)

This recording is so right, so true and so honest that it can’t but attract your attention. I state that as a person who, as a rule, does not find much time for listening to ethnic music. But this particular disc is characterized by that sort of purity that can be felt even by such average listener as I am. That’s why I strongly recommend everybody without any exception to listen to this dsic. For more attentive listeners I will say that this disc is the sequel of the project, the first addition of which was the album "The Host, Open the Gates!". Apparently some of the best groups of this trend take part in the project, namely Drevo, Otava, Volodar, Dyke Pole, Hurtpravtsi. This recording presents both the specific character of singing of five groups and experimental inter-groups projects. Moreover, if one knows that not only colleagues, but old friends and like-minded people perform here, then he or she will understand that the results exceed a simple sum of components. Still, one should not even understand all that – because one can feel it. Easily. Purely. Confidently. For that, I think, one needn’t even be a Ukrainian, it is quite enough to be simply a human being. An attentive human being. These voices and melodies possess a real magic, which has no bounds either in time or in space.

Ladovytsi. A Bozhaya Maty po svitu khodyla. /digi-pack/. (Oh Mother of God walked along the world)

"Ladovytsi" have a very respectful attitude to preservation of the tradition – thus, we are talking about reproduction of the authentic performance. However, you don't need to think about that – just listen, because the songs are really good. They somehow imperceptibly dissolve the exhaustion and habit of the routine – and fill with the hope for joy.

Perhaps, it would sound surprising if one said – silent music. But – how else could one put it? No, it does not keep silent, it is something different. This is the beauty that can only be born in pure silence, in the situation of total immersion into, total emergence from...

A "Psal'ma" is a folk song with a religious meaning or content. On this disc the Kyiv folk group "Bozhychi" features a series of ancient Ukrainian psal'ms, recording in the course of several folk expeditions to the eastern part of Ukraine – the Dnipropetrovs'k, Donets'k, Luhans'k and Kharkiv regions. Ostap Stakhiv is related to a considerable number of various projects in this or that way linked with revival and popularization of Ukrainian, in particular singing folklore. One of ways to do that was creation of Ostap Stakhiv's Folklore Theater – and you will be able to hear some outcomes of the work already now, on this disc.

One of the best collections of songs performed by Ukrainian revivalist groups that I've come across. Powerful, emotional, deeply convincing singing, and the sound quality is excellent. I love it.
