"Lukyni Rosy" folk ensemble. Blahoslovy Bozhe. (Bless Goodness)

At once, from the first word, this singing attracts attention – because one feels the ancient, true character of what he/she hears. And then one feels it again, and again – a wonderful album, saturated. They have worked well – at first, it is even hard to believe somehow that it is sung by young girls, whose cumulative life experience won't even make up a hundred years. They sing so that one feels real age-old depth. One feels submerging together with their voices into such layers of time, that it is even difficult to imagine – and one feels quite comfortable there. I even do not know how to explain all that – for we have quite a lot of good collectives engaged in authentic singing. But "Lukyni Rosy" is obviously one of few. Yes, those better than the rest. If this kind of results derive from faith, then these girls believe in what they do much more than one hundred percent. For which they deserve gratitude – I take off my hat and bow. Here, I should hush up, but I still want to separately pay attention to the last three songs of the album. In two of them – a pleasant combination of Ukrainian singing with light oriental percussion. And the last present is a Bulgarian spring song. Beautiful.

"Drevo", female ensemble from the Kryachkivka village. Bahatoholossja. (live). /mini-pack/. (Polyphony)

One song, another one, and here it already seems that when performing they appear in some different dimension, fly up in sorrow and tranquility. Here the song fades, and in an instant the audience applauds sincerely - and these applauses seem to abruptly bring the women back on the scene. Possibly, too abruptly – and again they squint at the light, smile awkwardly. But in another moment a new song starts – and a new splash, new release in tranquility...

Kolo richky, kolo brodu. Music Heritage of Ukraine. /digi-pack/. (At a River, at a Ford)

Songs of the full year cycle are intertwined into the whole of the fabric – from winter holidays and up to the harvest time. They are mixed with lyric songs, ballads – but there are also a wedding and a cradle melody, and a few dancing ones. Thus, this disc does not set the purpose to recreate the vision of a specific rite or cycle.

Holosy mynuloho. Zhyvi perekazy Poltavschyny. Music Heritage of Ukraine. /digi-pack/. (Voices of the Past. Live Narratives of Poltavschina)

The album offers to the listener traditional Poltava music of various styles and epochs – without arrangements, in the pure form. Such recordings may grow almost impossible in a very close future. Thus, listen – and do not say that you did not see it.
