Joseph Heller. Pastka-22. (Catch-22)
"The antiwar work "Catch 22" is the first and most outstanding novel by American writer Joseph Heller based on his own combat experience as a bomb-aimer of the Air Force during World War II. The protagonist, Captain John Yossarian, decides to rescue his life rejecting more combat missions, but an obstacle to salvation is Catch 22. With his sarcasm, black humor, farce, grotesque, the author highlights cruel absurdity of the war, mocks idiocy and greediness of the military bureaucracy. The original, comic, and thrilling novel "Catch 22" is considered a masterpiece of satirical prose and one of the best literary works of the twentieth century."
