Ukrainian music ensemble "Dnipro". Zhyva voda. (Spring Water)
This album by the "Dnipro" ensemble completely justifies its name – it is really lively, spring one. I think it is able to become a real finding for all those who are interested in authentic sounding of Ukrainian folk instruments. There are, by the way, quite a lot of them here: lyre, buhalo, koza, kobza, bugay, kozobas, floyara, pan-pipe, pan-flute, dulcimers, horn – a real collection of the characteristic soundings. And add here as well instruments of the classic set – accordion, clarinet, violins, alto, contrabass and many others. All of them together offer a large space for fantasy – and the musicians use this space to its full, inventively and brightly. We should separately mention the soloist – Olena Kulyk – who has a wonderful soprano. The disc mostly consists of instrumental compositions, that is why her voice sounds not that often. But when it does sound – it thrills both with its force and expressiveness. However, let us be fair – real mastery can be guessed in performance of all participants of the collective. That is why virtually every solo, regardless of the instrument, has become a nice decoration of the disc. Besides, not only arrangements of folk songs and melodies sound here, but also a lot of authors' material based on Ukrainian music tradition – and the latter by no means yields to the former.

NAOFI. Melodies Of Ukraine. Ninth CD.

The ninth disc is an interesting attempt to reproduce folk and popular authors' songs in instrumental performance only, without the vocal. Timbre richness, bright expressive opportunities of folk instruments, delicate feeling of the energy of the music material and the general emotional breathing allowed creating the song music masterpieces of the Ukrainian people.

Oles' Zhuravchak. Spivucha sopilka 3: Sny Karpat. (Singing sopilka 3: Dreams of the Carpathians)

He is still able to fire up and refresh with light silver brooks of flying notes – and to thrill with unhurried lyricism of melodies. The modern and traditional interlace in his performance absolutely naturally, melodies of other peoples grow into Ukrainian basis simply and naturally – one even does not notice all of that at once. And – it is done in a talented way.
Domestic price: 208.60UAH, International price: $14.90USD

Vognesmih. Kraine U. (Country U).

Various synthesis is, actually, a characteristic sign of music by Vognesmih – as it has two powerful grounds. One is rock sounding, strong, deep, modern. The second is the ethnic component, which is based on the pleasantly extensive palette of authentic instruments.
Domestic price: 256.20UAH, International price: $18.30USD

Oles' Zhuravchak. Singing sopilka 2.

His solo performance and performance accompanied by an orchestra sound very bright and cheerful. Especially because there has been found the possibility for not only for classical compositions, but also for creative search. To make a long story short – it is good.
Domestic price: 208.60UAH, International price: $14.90USD

Ukrainian Barvy. Etno MIX. /digi-pack/

We have already repeatedly met Ukrainian Barvy – and the group has never disappointed us. It feels identically easy in absolutely different styles, it performs very varied music – spiritual, ceremonial, classic, modern, folk, variety art.

Too bad "Anatolij" doesn't like this album -- goes to show what passes for "music" in Ukraine today, I think. (Been there too, many times, and I hear what blares from their mini-vans and windows). I am no spring chicken, am 4th generation Ukrainian on both sides and I have heard and made Ukrainian music for many years. Let no one say it's "not authentic". Sheesh. This album is a joy to listen to, strikes an excellent balance of tradition with the proper "new millennium tweaks", and should be in the library (no, in the CD player) of everyone with a drop of Ukr. blood. Don't have a clue who the artists are, personally, but wish I did -- great job, guys!

Of all the CDs I purchased this is one of my absolute favorites. It is so beautiful and restful. In fact, I often put it on my stereo system when I retire for the night and enjoy the music as it lulls me to sleep. It also uses traditional Ukrainian folk instruments played by highly professional and skilled musicians. A tribute to the Ukraine which I recommend highly for anyone who enjoys listening to music played on folk instruments which have been in use since ancient times. My hat is off to "Dnipro".

Can't believe no one has provided a review as yet, these musicians are top notch, enjoyed the CD from start to finish.
