V hetoj hati. Ukrainian ethnic music.

Thank God, there still exist people on the earth who in contrast to most of us not only listen to songs. These are the people who sing. These are the people who make recordings. Recordings of the songs, which were old when our old people had not been born yet. Recordings of melodies, which appeal not to your ear, but to your nature, as no body of an average city dweller remembers them, but you start listening to them – and seem to remember. Moreover, I am sure that you remember them regardless of the fact whether you are Ukrainian, or whether any your Grandfathers was Ukrainian, since these songs come not so much from the nation as from something else. They come from the earth itself, and not only from our earth. They come from the earth as it is. And our planet, as you know, is round. So, real and deep roots are intertwined somewhere inside of it and are somehow congeneric. That’s why any person may draw near something real in any part of the world. One should only listen and look deeper. The same way as with this disc. At it the songs from Beresteishchina are collected. Now it is the territory of Belarus, but the songs and melodies are ours. Our own. From these parts. Real.

Folklore group "Stari Koni" (Old Horses). Stari Koni. (Old Horses)

Not that long ago I heard singing of this group for the first time – and now it already seems to me that it is just impossible not to fall in love with them. And no wonder that they were recognized everywhere they performed – and it is strange that only now these records have been released in proper quality with a normal number of copies. And – happily.

Postop'janka z Podljashsha. Ukrainian ethnic music.

Pidlyashshya is a south-western region of Ukraine situated at the border, so naturally its culture is influenced by close neighbours – Belarus and Poland. In those parts along with usual songs you may also hear spiritual songs, Russian romances and songs, which once used to be Polish, but now have already become Ukrainian.
