John Maxwell Coetzee is a South African novelist, essayist, linguist, translator. Before receiving the 2003 Nobel Prize in Literature, Coetzee was awarded the Booker Prize (twice), among other accolades.
"Professor David Lurie does not impress students, who are not that much interested in the English literature of the nineteenth century. Being fifty-two, he has already been divorced twice, but he does not lose interest in women and seeks for opportunities to satisfy his intimate needs. There are only rare semesters when he does not fall in love with some of the students. However, his last affair knocks him out of the established rhythm and leads to irreversible changes.
