"How I Was Destroying the Empire" is the first Ukrainian story for adolescents about the last years of the soviet empire. How did Soviet people live? How did they chase scarce goods? Who were they afraid of? And what did they aspire to?
The characters of the story are teenagers who are friends, who argue, hector, sometimes even resort to witchcraft, while in fact they end up in the maelstrom of the social changes. The reader will understand why the further shocks that Ukraine suffered were inevitable. Why did the Soviet Union collapse? And – most importantly – who destroyed it?"
