Bruno Schulz. Knyha lystiv. (Book of Letters)
"Great Polish writer Bruno Schulz (1892-1942), who all through his life lived in Drohobych and died there in the hands of Nazis during the Shoah, was an outstanding epistolographist. His letters were often an impetus for future short stories, they are a great examples of the prose of magical realism. "Book of Letters" is a collection of all surviving letters to friends, colleagues and partners in publishing and artistic endeavors, educational institutions. It also contains discovered letters addressed to Bruno Schulz, which make it possible to better understand vicissitudes of the artist's individual biography, his creative pursuits and revelations. This correspondence has been for over 60 years collected by the outstanding Polish poet, essayist and cultural studies expert Jerzy Ficowski. The book is a kind of a monument to the universe of Galician Jews destroyed by Nazis and Stalinists, who initially survived the Shoah, and then in the Soviet Union they suffered brutal nipping of traces of their cultural, religious and even human presence in the territory of the region."
