The author of the chronicle published in 1896, A.G.Lebedintsev – one of the five famous Lebedintsev brothers – set the objective of remembering "when and on what occasion the State Leaders of the Russian people favored the golden-domed ancient Kyiv with their visits, how they spent time here, what favors poured from their generosity on the city and its sacred objects". The book contains a detailed description of visits to Kyiv by Peter I, Elisabeth Petrovna, Pavel I, Catherine II, Alexander I, Nikolay I, Alexander II and Alexander III.

The book by Sergiy Hrygorovych Yaron (1850-1913) – journalist, advocate, city activist, one of founders of "Kyiv Free Fire-Fighting Society" was published in 1910. These are memoirs of the author about Kyiv in the 1880s: the general picture of the city's life, stories about how the city Duma, police worked, notes on the Kyiv press, theater, description of notable events – celebration of the 900th anniversary of baptizing Rus, 50th anniversary of St. Volodymyr University, the visit to Kyiv of emperor Alexander III in 1885. Some chapters are devoted to the governor general of the south-western region O.R.Drenteln, city governors S.M.Gudym-Levkovych, L.P.Tomare, metropolitan of Kyiv and Galychyna Platon, professors of the University and directors of high schools, Kyiv public figures.
