Tanok Na Maydani Kongo. Pozhezhi mista Babylon. /re-edition/. (Fires of the Babylon city) | | Track Reviews (4) |
|
|
This album is the object of pride of the musicians of TNMKongo at least because it is performed by them with their own hands, with "alive" instruments, practically without using samples. But it is possible to say even without mentioning all those things that this group is a fully ripe fruit. I do not know whether it is an apple – these are only details. At that, I could not say how exactly this ripeness is expressed. It seems as if there were not less tricks in their songs, and the music had not grown fat, it had not developed a paunch, and the power of pressure had not disappeared anywhere. Everything is like that – and not like that. Besides youthful burning, you can feel a real adult confidence – in yourself, in your business, in the whole world. And this confidence captivates you, blazes up and sets you on fire. This energy is like a "peaceful atom". But this time it is really peaceful. In any case, you cannot call it militant. After listening to this album you will not have any desire to break a window or to strike somebody into face. You will have the desire to plant trees in those places where there are not so many of them, or build a house, or even give birth to a son – quite probable, why not. To give birth to a son who is so curious and so restless – a real dweller of a modern Babylons. A son who will not fear to change them.

It seems that Antytila have finally discovered and tamed their wave: the new album is almost entirely composed of "blockbusters" – one imagines the picture where these songs sound at a stadium scale.

Babkin manages to avoid profanity: his music had became lighter, but not primitive, the lyrics have become more concise – but have not slipped into nonsense (besides – for the first time! – all songs of the album are in Ukrainian), in the end, the scale of the artist has changed, which is perceived in the way it is presented.

The first thing that catches the eye is the musicians' regard to the pop rock aesthetics of the 1980's and the 2000's. It's not about copying as such – but this almost-retro flavor works as a properly selected spice: it helps to open up the base. Well, and the base is the ability to create good melodies and expressive arrangements..

..it seems that they are about that all of us once came out of water of the World Ocean. Our paths converge, diverge, interrupt, go on, intertwine – and sometimes it is love, while sometimes – confrontation. But always(!) there is something in common for all of us..

The new album by Antytila was released unexpectedly quickly – but the title "Sun" seems to imply that there was no need to wait, that the time came. Or – were the new songs so much burning inside that one had to release them as soon as possible? However, the cover of "People Like Ships" by Skryabin here may indicate at something quite different

On the one hand, there is a bunch of components in the musical canvas, and participation of jazz musicians, a children's choir, or a full-fledged brass section emphasize that – the arrangements turn out diverse. On the other – there is still the feeling as if you listen to an album sung just with the guitar. However, it is rather an advantage...

Green Grey decided not to abandon the combination of electronic music with rock aesthetics – though, now there is somehow more of the latter, so one can hardly attribute this music to the light one. The elements of dubstep and hardcore are far not the only ones in this puzzle...

..The key issues covered in the texts are the request for people to have trust in their power, to help people around, to value beloved ones, to smile at every day, to learn from old mistakes, and most importantly – to be themselves.

"NedaremnO" tries to sound different. Not too "trimmed" – and it has its advantages, because lack of syrup makes the taste much more honest. There is some special drive – that young groups had in abundance 10 to 20 years ago, but which many of the current "novices" often lack.

...the sound appears really clear, light, and sometimes almost fragile. Actually, it is possible to compare – because, in addition to new songs, you'll find here several songs from the previous album "In You". This is not yet homely comfort – but this is not desperate thunder of large scenes either, definitely.

To say that Pianoboy has pleased us with his debut work – it means to say not enough. I do not know who has been expecting for what – though after Okean Elzy, Esthetic Education and Zemfira one could hardly seriously anticipate a failure? – but I suspect that the album will surpass most expectations

The main thing is that this music is not committed to a certain style, but rather to a certain brand, a quality of expression. So, if for the sake of this quality one needs to add some atypical colors – it happens in an easy and natural way. Such a cool simplicity. At the same time – it is a team play, in which no one pulls the blanket over himself.

The "Radioheaven" project is a good example of rock music created just for the love of the process, not for any mercenary considerations. Thus, there is no cheap epatage, adolescent humor and disregard for detail in the sounding. While there is a quest for their own path, self-respect and, at the same time, self-irony.

...the trademark self-irony is still there. To make sure – the first song from the album will be enough. Though, indeed, the rest of the songs also meet this sort of a definition: irony plus clownery. Need I say that both the first and second are not limited to smiles and jokes, subtle and not too subtle?

Maybe, it is just about some personal maturing of the musicians – and it, in its turn, is only reflected in the new songs? Maybe, so. Anyway, despite all external appearances, there is the desire to refer to the new album by Mandry as a blues one...

The Britalin really pleases both with the level of performance, and arrangements. The lyrics are not deprived of some sense either, and sometimes they are quite provocative – it is nice. And, moreover, there are two leading vocals at once – male and female – and that diversifies the sound and adds a certain semantic intrigue.

...A sort of an album of ballads. If you do not listen attentively – it seems very balanced. But when you are attentive – that is when the second bottom opens: it is an album of deep feelings, bright experiences and, at the same time, quiet reflections. Not speculations on a topic, but exactly – individual reflections.

..the impression is that Dilya has finally discovered and realized what he aspires to in actual fact. The impression is that "Fortissimo" is currently not only the best of his albums, but also one of the best pop-rock albums of the recent time in general. It resembles a picture drawn with wide strokes, skillfully and freely, with passion – but also a lot of attention to nuances.

..the group performs cheerful rock with admixtures of pop punk and the aftertaste of hippy aesthetics. And it appears, really, sunny and positive – even though humor is far not the key (although noticeable enough) constituent of the songs' lyrics. This, in the end, is nice – because there are now more and more groups that try to joke, while we hardly witness more jokes)

"Sertsevy Napad" is only five years old, and now you see the first official album by the group. But the guys decided not to wait long and to start from the middle – therefore, the disc is not simply an album, but a sort of a "the best" collection. That is what the title hints at, not without irony – "Golden $hits".

The very first sounds with which this disc starts inspire quite a stable association with rock music of the 1960s and 1980s – actually, a pleasant association. But – and this is also pleasant – the style palette of the album is varied and saturated enough. That is, this is rock, in which there is roll, and hard, and art, and atmospheric poetry and just poem...

This album was about to become the third work of the band 5'nizza – but unfortunately, while working at the album the musical concept was changed so much that the group broke up. Nevertheless, on the basis of it there appeared a new project the front man of which is Andriy “Sun” Zaporozhets. So the name of it derived from the leader's one.

Boombox is one of those groups, which have their own appearance from the very beginning. Therefore, they spend their time not to create some unique style, but to find new colours. And every time these colours get more and more intense – the proof is in front of your eyes.

His audience is growing if not with the speed of a lightning, then – incessantly. At that, in three directions simultaneously. One – the listeners who came to love his own songs. Second – the audience who keep track of his theatrical life (i.e. "Theater 19"). Third – readers who value interesting poetry.

Loved the mix of music and amusing dialogue clips. Top tracks - Ivo Bobul, which still makes me laugh every time I hear it; Maryna, which has a "seedy" feel about it - good beat and really pacey; Sex, Box, Jazz - great for listening to in the car with the windiows down!! Chorta ne bachyly made my 80 year old father laugh until he cried, so something for everyone here!
