Taras Hunczak. Russian Imperialism. "Vital World Discussions" Series.
"Russian Imperialism from Ivan the Great to the Revolution", the book edited by Taras Hunczak, professor of Rutgers University well-known both inside and outside Ukraine, was published in 1974 and 2000 in the United States, but until now has not been translated into Ukrainian, despite of its particular importance for Ukraine. This collection of articles by leading historians reveals the very essence of the Russian imperialism (by imperialism the editor means expansion of force and influence by one nation or state to other nations, territories or groups of people), starting with the reasons of Russia's imperialistic behaviour and ending with the implementation of Russia's imperialistic plans in various corners of the empire. The book covers the period starting with the disintegration of the Mongol Empire and until the Bolshevik revolution, but makes references to the present days as well.

Since Russia goes on cherishing its imperial image and resorts to any methods to keep its territories that became Russian due to Russia's expansion (including to Ukraine), this topic remains up-to-date for all post-Russian republics. Taras Hunczak believes that it is difficult for the empire to say good-bye to its past."
