"On the basis of studying the original text of "Pacts and Constitutions of Laws and Liberties of the Zaporizhzhya Cossack Army..." of 1710, the author proves that its authors relied on the antique, late Middle-Ages and early modern political and legal traditions, thus using ideas of lots of European thinkers, from Plato and Thomas Aquinas to Johann Althusius and John Locke. The fact that Pylyp Orlyk and other Mazepa followers considered this act not only within the "elective" (election) and "constitutional" (legal) laws, but also created it as a unique project of the Perfect State in the territory of the Eastern Europe, is considered.
Intended for lawyers, teachers, students of departments of history and law, as well as anyone interested in the history of ideas and the political and legal thought."
