Today, the historian Volodymyr Vyatrovych, who at the position of the director of the Security Service of Ukraine archive declassified archives of the Soviet secret service, from CheKa to KGB, speaks about Ukraine's past in the period of 1918-1991.

The book is written in the form of essays on various aspects of work of secret services and the USSR camp system – GULAG, on the struggle of the Ukrainian liberation movement in the east and west of the country, on unique fates of the priests who challenged the system. The historian publishes previously inaccessible cases initiated by "authorities" to persecute artists of the "Executed Renaissance" and dissidents, reveals causes of Chornobyl disaster and the last desperate attempts of security officers to save the Union.

The reader will become acquainted with methods of global information wars of the 20th century at participation of security services of the leading states, see deportation mechanisms and the insides of the prison system, discover internal causes of the collapse of the "prison of nations".
