Igor Shamo. Songs.

You could hardly find a grown-up person on our post-Soviet territory who would not have known these songs and this name – Ihor Shamo. It is not surprising, as he composed not only music to songs, but also music to 56 films, symphonies, operas, instrumental compositions of all genres. This composer is so talented that he was admitted a members of the Union of Composers when he was a student of the third year at Kyiv Conservatoire. He is such a talented composer that – you might hear by yourselves – even after fifty years his songs are taken as something fresh, clear, inspired and simply beautiful. Doesn’t all that speak about his talent? Time is a scrupulous listener, you know, and straight-out as well. But the creative activity of Ihor Shamo seems to have passed such exam very well. That’s why I am glad twice in connection with this disc. First, I am glad for those who know and like these songs. Then, I am glad for those who do not know and will only discover them for themselves. And here there is much to discover.
