Choir Group Of the Award Winning Song and Dance Folk Ensemble of Ukraine "Darnychanka". Let's unite, beloved family. | | Track Reviews (7) |

This group is already 43 years old. It has made a good showing not only in Ukraine, but also nearly all over Europe. It is not surprising that the repertoire of this ensemble is various. Here you can find lyrical and playful songs, the songs of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks, the songs of the times of the Second World War, as well as other songs – they have found time for everything and they perform everything at the highest level. I would also like to mention now that this ensemble is not a chamber one, there are many people in it (only at the photo you can see more than 30 members), and this fact speaks by itself. Large-scale performance should be expected from them, so to say, performance in a big way, so that walls shake and leaves fall down from the trees. Such kind of expectations justifies themselves – there is a powerful force and a broad space in the singing of the choir. If you listen to this album in a small room, I recommend you to open the window – otherwise it might be too tight. As for me, these songs performed in such a manner are associated with fancy-dress dances on a big stage – still, if you want to see them, you need more than audio recording. Well, we have, what we have – thanks a lot even for that.

As I have an acquaintance who works at the airport, I can confidently say: when flying away from Ukraine, people search for discs by exactly this Ukrainian collective, in fact, more frequently than any other ones. Whatever you might say, the National Choir named after G.Veryovka is a real, bright, original legend. Living.

...these songs at this disc sound somehow strictly, greatly, spiritually in that sense which is meant in connection with the church singing. Natural melodiousness of both Ukrainian language and, as they say, people’s soul is quite evident for everybody who listens to Ukrainian song...

Here usual Ukrainian songs sound as spiritual ones, though they seem to have nothing to do with the church. So then, here a song as it is acquires a new quality and a new content – to be exact, an old and almost forgotten content.

International price: $17.90USD

It's a pleasure to finally get back to the true Ukrainian roots. We seemed to have forgotten lately what our musical heritage is based on. Listening to these songs brought memories back to when I was little and my parents played LP records of their native land. I will certainly pass these songs along to my grandchildren lest they forget what real Ukrainian music stems from. I am looking forward to more of this type of music on your site.

I have listened to this cd while driving to work and at home while working. It draws out such strong emotion and cultural pride that one needs to stop and just listen,to be swept away by the harmonies,to feel the mood and become one of those in the audiance of some vast theatre,to become one of the 'family'.(please don't try this while driving,it could be fatal.)Definitely will be getting more of this ensemble.Shame that they have not as yet produced a combination cd/dvd with the dancers included.

This CD is filled with glorious folk melodies. A fitting title 'Lets unite, dear family!' I'm a big fan of Ukrainian folk choirs and the Darnychanka Ensemble are no exception. My favourites, 'Lysty', Jihav kozak z hory ta v bajrak'. Oj melnyku, melnychenku'. But they are engaging songs sung with the highest folk professionalism. I kindly ask for more CD's of folk choral singing, say from Veryovka, Volyn Song and Dance Company, Ljonok and others. Bravo!

Thank you for wonderful site that helps us, ukrainians-immigrants, to listen the voice of native land - Ukraine. Unfortunately, I couldn't find (and order) the songs of Gregory Veriovka's Chorus. And amather's folk essemble "Ridni Naspivy" (that is named "the little Veriovka's chorus") from Kyiv Region (Jagotyn) also.
