Oksana Herasymenko is an internationally acclaimed concert bandurist who toured in Ukraine, Spain, Japan, Cuba and the United States. Oksana is also a talented and imaginative composer who includes her own compositions in the performances. In Spain and Japan the audiences as well as the music critics expressed their admiration for Oksana as an artist and for her unique Ukrainian instrument, the bandura.
She grew up in a musical family. Her father, Vasyl Herasymenko, is a professor of bandura at the Lviv Lysenko Conservatory and the inventor of a new type of concert bandura with excellent sonority and an improved mechanism for changing tonalities. Her sister, Ola Herasymenko Oliynyk is well known as a concert bandurist in Ukraine and the United States. While studying at the Conservatory, Oksana joined a bandura trio with her sister Ola and Ola Voitovych. The trio became well known from its performances on radio and television. They toured Poland, Germany, Japan, Vietnam and all of Ukraine. In 1978 Oksana and the Trio became the winners of the All-Ukrainian Competition at Cherkassy.
Presently, Oksana is a member of the bandura faculty at the Lviv Lysenko Conservatory.
