The Ensemble of traditional ethnic music "Buttya"

Traditional Ukrainian music group "Buttia" is a music group that continues the tradition of vocal and instrumental folk music and dance. Nowadays in daily Ukrainian country life this tradition is very scarcely represented. The ensemble's participants attempt to reproduce the authentic sound of village ensembles or to restore it with maximal correspondence to the original.
The group exists since 2000 and is basically formed by the Buts family. The ensemble performs both instrumental and vocal music pieces. Its repertoire includes traditional wedding tunes, support to dances, lyric songs, comic songs, ballads, and also winter ritual songs. The group's aim is to investigate and preserve traditional Ukrainian music. The group's members have already gone out into ethnographic expeditions for eight years, collecting music records all over the countryside. The music is played in the original sound. The ensemble's motto is "Thinking like folk musicians". "Buttia" is the participant of festivals such as "Svitovyd" (2000), "The Kyiv Rus" (2004), "Dreamland" (2004, 2005, 2006), "Sheshory" (2005), "Skamba Skamba Kankliai" (2005), "Viljandi" (2005), "Mykolajki Folkowe" (2007). The ensemble plays at folk parties, weddings, holidays, takes part in TV- and radio programs, and organizes folk dance classes.
