For an enormous number of people, if you ask them about Czech Republic, one of the major associations will be Hasek and his Schweik. Possibly, even the only one. And if you ask about Schweik – it is far not always remembered at once that by birth he originates from Czech Republic. And absolutely not because the country has nothing worth paying attention to. Simply, for almost one hundred years of his life, he has gone very far beyond geographic and national borders. If I’m not mistaken, it is "Adventures of the Good Soldier Schweik" that have been filmed for already over 50 times – and one can be confident that the latter attempts were not the last ones. The same refers to translations as well – presumably, there are fewer languages into which the book has not be translated than vice versa. And here, finally, the Ukrainian translation has ripened. It seems to me that the translation is successful. Actually, the original text is full, apart from everything else, of purely colloquial jokes, puns, etc. – it is therefore pleasant that the Ukrainian text is also distinguished for its succulence and colors. We offer you to make sure of that yourself. By the way, there exists the idea that every separate part of the novel can be listened to as a separate, complete work. To what extent it corresponds to reality – here you also are in the position to check that with your own efforts.
