To start with, let us just state: the studio collection of the project Jazz-Kolo devoted to Ukrainian pianists is the largest one in volume – this is, as you can see, a double disc. It seems to us that two reasons worked here at once. One, obviously, has the exclusively technical nature – in the case with other instruments (see the collections Sax Kolo, Bass Kolo, Guitar Kolo), presumably, it just appeared impossible to collect such number of qualitatively recorded studio material. For the rule is simple: one musician – one composition. Well, and Piano Kolo testifies to that jazz projects here tend, mainly, exactly to the piano. Moreover – and this is nothing new either – there are just physically more of professional pianists than of bass guitarists, sax players, etc. Well, and the second reason is of a more creative nature: it appears that projects by our pianists engulf a very extensive palette of styles – which is pleasant. From pop-music to avant-garde, with a number of bright tints between these two extremities – besides, truly lots of very young musicians are represented here. It has already been mentioned that the whole series of studio collections of the series Jazz-Kolo is planned as a sort of a reference book on Ukrainian jazz musicians (though not maximally complete – but maximally indicative). Well, and the studio recording Piano Kolo is a wonderful illustration of that Ukrainian jazz not just lives, but also develops smartly and interestingly.
