You could already hear the concert variant of the new album by Igor Zakus before – it was released in 2007 titled "Kolomyikas Live 2007" in "Jazz Kolo" series, and then we also had a conversation with you on that event. However, it is difficult to avoid adding a few more words now, that the studio version is released – the album really deserves that. One listens to it – and it slowly strikes him/her how carefully, tolerantly all the arrangements were made (for this – special gratitude to Igor Zakus). However, for a person who did not somehow specially listen to Ukrainian folk music – it will be rather difficult to identify the themes, and sometimes even impossible. But. If such person, not knowing Ukrainian music, knows jazz – this will be quite enough to get truly penetrated with the colors. By the way, about the colors: the insertions played by Myron Bloschychak on folk winds instruments do sound outstanding. Unobtrusively – but that adds very bright colors to the disc. Moreover. "Kolomyikas" is a good album with bright pieces that are able to capture the audience as it is, even without associations with the material it derives from. In the end, there was no "weak link" in the team of the album’s creators. That is, probably, the reason why, without regard to the intense structure, there is within the music fabric – freedom, which makes it possible to breathe deeply. And the only thing that one cannot but regrets is that this album has been realized only now, not a couple of years ago, when hunger for such music was just incredible. However, it has still not been quenched completely...
