Huljajhorod, Tartak. Huljajhorod.

"Tartak" has released two new albums practically at the same time – "The First Commercial" and "Huljajhorod", which you see in front of you now. It seems that there may appear comparisons like "worse-better". Still, they do not appear. The first one is the album of remixes, at which well-known songs arranged in a new way are recorded. As for the album "Huljajhorod", it is absolutely a new material, which has not sounded before. Moreover, this is a new experience for "Tartak" – after all, Ukrainian songs, strange though it may seem, made the basis of the album. In any case, personally I did not expect from the group to make such a step, but my astonishment is pleasant. The cover of the album tells that all folklore material was collected and worked out by the group "Huljajhorod", while all modern material was created by "Tartak". Personally I will add that the combination of these two directions of movement gave a very sharp and unusual result. The album is not simply saturated with powerful energy, which is so peculiar for "Tartak". Moreover, it does not look like more or less similar experiments, at least because not only musical framing has undergone changes, but texts as well. That is, modern and folklore texts are divided into parts and mixed – and it has turned out to be interesting. I advise you to show interest.

Tanok Na Maydani Kongo. 7. /premium, eco-pack/.

..this time they even manage without their signature prankish skits between tracks. Moreover, the symbolism of the number 7 is multi-layered – for example, it is a symbol of the unity of Heaven and Earth, the soul and the body. And if one perceives lyrics of the new album from this perspective – maybe, that could turn out a fairly good story of wandering and revelation..

Tartak. AnTARTAKtyda. Part 2. /digi-pack/. (AnTARTAKtica)

The album sounds as if Sashko Polozhynsky has once again discovered his second breath. There is experience, there is comprehension and awareness – but there is also a vivid, direct response to the world around. And the key feature of the new work is virtually its sparkle, reckless and sober at the same time. Self-irony in action. Without significant illusions
Domestic price: 320.60UAH, International price: $22.90USD

Boombox. Holy korol. (EP). /premium, eco-pack/. (Naked King)

Regarding songs by Boombox, it has always been interesting to listen to the lyrics – among other things, due to their disposition to (and the ability of) playfulness. But the further, the less verbal balancing they contain – but more poignant senses, refined formulas, comprehensive observations. The new (mini)album "Naked King" is a very vivid evidence of that..
Domestic price: 250.60UAH, International price: $17.90USD

Boombox. Lyudy. (EP). /eco-pack/. (People)

"People" is a work small in size, but rich in content. From heavy teen romance – to some serious generalizations only possible when having gained experience. From quite intimate reflections – to civil pathos. And in terms of the sheer sound, it turns out – diverse.
Domestic price: 250.60UAH, International price: $17.90USD

Boombox. Terminal B. /digi-pack/.

Something is changing inside. The feeling is as if Andriy Khlyvnyuk submerges much deeper now, and peers much closer, and than suddenly opens up and appears probably even defenceless, vulnerable – and because of that, however strange that may be, stronger. Even if it is painful. And this movement is there.
Domestic price: 250.60UAH, International price: $17.90USD

Tanok Na Maydani Kongo. S.P.A.M. /digi-pack/.

Well, here it is, "S.P.A.M." – and it is worth having been waited for. In the deciphered form the name of the disc sounds in this way: "System of Programming an Alternative Mind". At least – this means that TNMKongo is really fed up with something.
Domestic price: 306.60UAH, International price: $21.90USD

Tartak. Nazbyralosya na 2010. /digi-pack/. (Collected for 2010)

...The updates are not so radical that it is impossible to recognize originals – but, on the other hand, the sound nature appears surprisingly diverse. Since a good deal of styles are mixed here, the key common feature of all the tracks is not a certain style but high energy value. Actually, it always happens with Tartak.
Domestic price: 348.60UAH, International price: $24.90USD

Samosaboyzz. Samosavershenstvo.

"Samosaboyzz", no doubt, has its individual face. Contradictory, ambiguous – but that is, in our opinion, exactly where the considerable potential is hidden: opened endings intrigue far greater, don't they?
Domestic price: 152.60UAH, International price: $10.90USD

Fozzey. MetaMoreFozzey: Mono.

...stories told without excessive pathos, without picturesque poses – our cities, our lives appear in them. Without moralizing, without pressure – and it is for this reason, however surprising, that you listen to it very attentively. And it intersects with your own ideas, with your own stories and other people’s fragments – and this album is no longer mono, but stereo.
Domestic price: 250.60UAH, International price: $17.90USD

Tartak. Zaklipani pisni, abo Bachyly ochi scho kupuvaly. (Clipped Songs, or the Eyes Saw What They Bought)

"Tartak" is now, presumably, one of the most energetic Ukrainian projects – in the both senses. Both in musical one, because this semi-crazy fest of motion and rhythm started a few years ago and lasts until now, not losing its intensity. And – in the sense of recording.
Domestic price: 222.60UAH, International price: $15.90USD

De Shifer. Spalahnuv...2005.

...the original combination of rap, hip-hop and heavy-metal gives "De Shifer" the opportunity to even today not only keep pace with others, but also to be in the avant-garde of modern Ukrainian music.
Domestic price: 208.60UAH, International price: $14.90USD

Gogol Bordello. Pura Vida Conspiracy.

...cocktails by Gogol Bordello become more transparent. Not so much quiet, rather – more considered, balanced internally. It seems to be a carnival of weird masks, behind which the simple idea lurks: no one makes you agree to everyday mediocrity. You can do it – otherwise.
Domestic price: 250.60UAH, International price: $17.90USD

Kozak System. Shablya. re-edition. /digi-pack/. (Saber)

"Kozak System" offers a bright mixture of modern and folk poetry, powerful rock, ska-punk with insertions of reggae, and everything is kept together by the serious frame of the Ukrainian folk root. In short - you should meet them again.
Domestic price: 320.60UAH, International price: $22.90USD

Oneyroid. Khoden'. /digi-pack/.

This is music with its own identity. And it's not only about interesting arrangements – listen to the lyrics: this is not simulation of rural folklore, this is its urban rethinking, but not limited to the city. Somewhere there, a universal key to the roots reside...
Domestic price: 404.60UAH, International price: $28.90USD

Perkalaba. !chydro /digi-pack/

Perkalaba unexpectedly, without any announcement produced its third album. Well, and it was right to do that – it has been long time already that we've been willing to hear something new from the spheres of absurd folk, and Perkalaba still stays virtually the main Ukrainian guide in the wilderness of these unexplored paths and ladders.
Domestic price: 390.60UAH, International price: $27.90USD

The Yurcash. Menuets. Tjulpany V TselaFani. (Menuets. Tulips In CellaPhane)

Yurcash really was not going to disappoint all those whom he managed to surprise so positively. The second album is also a sort of a "hodgepodge" of different, almost incompatible styles and moods, from hardcore to acid chanson. Though, there are now fewer "heavy" music remarks – however, it does not seem to be a severe loss. And the banter in the texts – has become more varied, diversified.
Domestic price: 460.60UAH, International price: $32.90USD

Brem Stoker. Chysto Ekolohichno. (Just Ecologically)

Actually, today this cocktail contains even more joyful mood and mockery – both at themselves and at everything around. Well, and good moods in combination with rock-n-roll punk and city folklore – yields as a result the wonderful energy drink allowed for consumption at any age.
Domestic price: 222.60UAH, International price: $15.90USD

Vinky. Ruta-M'yata.

...the first album is a convincing evidence of the fact that this group is capable of making experiments deeply and finely through mixing ethno, acid, trance, rock and fly-agaric and at the same time remembering the taste. Still, even the vocal singing deserves your attention, to say nothing about the rest of music...
Domestic price: 250.60UAH, International price: $17.90USD

Perkalaba. Hovoryt' Ivano-Frankivs'k. (Ivano-Frankivsk Speaking)

Perkalaba has managed what seems impossible – to merge folk-ska and psychedelics, not forgetting about banter as well. Both in music and in the lyrics. Movement in this direction took place before, but now it has acquired even brighter, more expressive features. And this, you know, takes you away. If it goes on...
Domestic price: 390.60UAH, International price: $27.90USD

Vopli Vidopliassova. Buly den'ky. (There were those days)

The group "VV" has recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of their creative life – and have released a new album. The age is respectable not only for a group – even for a person it is already quite a lot. One can – and should – sum up some results and draw conclusions. Actually, the album "There Were the Days" has become this kind of summarizing.
Domestic price: 250.60UAH, International price: $17.90USD

The Ukrainians. Respublika.

The overwhelming majority of songs are Ukrainian folk songs known to everybody. But you may never have heard them being performed in such a manner so far. If we mix this cuisine up on hard and forceful guitar reefs, as well as on violent drums, we will get a cocktail that blows up right before our eyes.
Domestic price: 208.60UAH, International price: $14.90USD

I was never a big fan of Tartak, I have to admit. I mean, they're ok, but not a big fan. So when I put this CD into my car and listened to the first track, I was shocked! Tartak, mixed with folk singers??? WOW! I like modern music, but traditional is my real love, so hearing such a beautiful mixture of both is great music to me : )

I first met them at the "Crossroad of the cultures" festival in Warsaw. They were announced as a hardcore band, wchich in fact is not very close to their style (it's rather hard-rock funk then hardcore punk).
But, whaatever, the music really blasts yourh head off, especially when the folk-girls start singing their parts it is just awesome.
I' d be happy if we had such great bands in Poland, instead of this folk-pop crap they're feeding us. Tartak: come back to Warsaw soon! (and don't forget to take theese girls with you)
