"The wonderful team Cherkasy Jazz Quintet by Serhiy Krasheninnikov celebrate their 10th anniversary in 2014. "Return Music To Me" is their seventh album already... The pieces recorded on this disc are, to put it mildly, unusual for a classical (by composition) jazz quintet, which is also an adept of the traditional hard bop.
First, there are no usual "foreign jazz" authors.
Second: the improvisations are based on melodies from different styles, and even different "music epochs" brought to the common jazz denominator.
And, third: the contents of this disc are full of music quotations, replete with witty jazz idioms. A sort of bold eclecticism (in a good way). The outcome of that is offered for your consideration. Enjoy!"
