Pieces of our well-known composer Victor Stepurko appear here not for the first time already, and we have come across work of the choral chapel “Pochajna” not once already. Thus, we understand very well what a high class we should expect from music on this disc. Actually, the most demanding expectations – will be satisfied. The disc devoted to the 390th anniversary of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy consists of two parts. The first one is Victor Stepurko's oratorio "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy". The second part consists of fragments of a concert of the choral chapel "Pochajna" held on December, 11, 2005. At the concert, well-known pieces by famous Ukrainian composers sounded – both by V.Stepurko, and by M.Verykіvs'ky, O.Yakovchuk, L.Revuts'ky, M.Lysenko. You, by the way, already had the opportunity to hear a part of these pieces earlier on other discs by "Pochajna". But this time they are parts of a uniform, live concert. And you, I suppose, understand that it is usually more interesting to listen to qualitative recording of live performance, than studio one. The record represented here is, certainly, qualitative – thus, enjoy it.

The theme of Christmas is actually gratifying, it is one of the most clear and joyful Christian holidays. But these chants – unlike, say, Christmas carols – reveal a somewhat different type of joy. Quiet, enlightened – as if one stands in the face of our familiar world and sees traits not subject to time or darkness manifesting through it.

Life is a variable flow, and we often say that too many hasty, superficial, and emotional things get mixed in this water. But this album is a reminder about that at any time there is a stream full of peace, light, and joy. It does not hide from us, it is always at hand – just one heartbeat away...

This time, the Academic Choir of the NRCU managed by Yulia Tkach presents the outcome of its collaboration with singer Taras Shtonda – the owner of a great bass baritone, a soloist of Kyiv Opera and Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. The outcome deserves positive consideration – no doubt.

There is certain magic akin to the content of genuine, deep lullabies – although, sure, in this case the music is more sophisticated, and it is not limited to the "mother/child" vector at all. The emotional palette is very diverse, from the quiet waters of a prayer – and to the disturbing confrontation with the violent world of passions.

Я рік співаю в Почайні і для мене вона стала справжнім домом - місцем де мені завжди добре! Те що робить цей колектив є справді унікальним. Не побоюся сказати, що Почайна оживляє музику, робить її близькою і неначе освітленою! Дякую!
